Got Resolutions? by Lindsay Bandy

It’s that time again….time to decide we’re going to be healthier, nicer, and all around better people than we were last year. At least for the first half of January, right? Well, this year, I’m making a resolution that has nothing to do with super-foods or scales, and I hope you’ll join me! (And pester me to make sure I’m keeping it!)

My resolution is to get more submissions out there. The writing part is the safe part, you know? The part I have control over. So far, I think I’ve been kind of dipping my toes in, and it’s time to take a dive. To focus on researching a larger volume of agents and editors and getting my work out there to more than one or two at a time.

So, how do you want to grow this year? Is it finally finishing that manuscript? Doing more to promote your book? Doing school visits? Joining a critique group? Writing a darn good query letter? Reading a couple of books on the craft? Carving out more time for your creative work? Doing more reading in the genre you write in?

Let’s support each other in achieving our goals throughout this year! I’d love to know what you’re working toward so we can gear more posts in directions that will be helpful to you.

I’ve actually been doing a series of blog posts on setting priorities and goals. I have Long-term and medium-term goals posted that coincide with my priorities in life. (http://orthodoxmom3.com/2015/01/05/narrowing-goals-2015/) Later this week, I’ll be posting the short-term goals, including establishing a habit of fitting writing time into my weekly agenda- with that is figuring out how to organize my writing time between actual writing time, critiquing (with a writing group), taking classes or doing writing research, and other things involving the craft. So in short- I’d love posts about creating writing time (and what one needs to do to learn how to be a better writer) into a busy schedule and and organizing oneself to get it all done! 🙂
