May Mid-Grade Madness!

Hey there, Middle-Grade writers! Our friends in the MD/DE/WV SCBWI have a challenge for you:

Write one COMPLETE mid-grade novel (20,000 words) in THREE CONSECUTIVE DAYS in May!

For more information, check out this  As The Eraser Burns blog post. And actually, check out their blog regularly, too, because they’re pretty cool.

If you’re going to take on this crazy, fun challenge, let us know so we can cheer you on 🙂

  1. Hmm. The faculty at last week’s conference agreed that a MG novel is 40K, not 20K. So the madness is that this is really half a novel?? Still would be amazing to get half done in three days. 🙂

Hey, Wendy, interesting thought. I’m guessing since it’s a 3-day draft, the purpose is to just get the idea out and on paper rather than being a perfectionist about it. (Oh, mea culpa!) Either way, 20,000 words in three days would probably short-circuit my brain! I applaud anyone willing to give it a try 🙂

  3. Yikes. Although I finished the Capter Book Challenge (affectionately known as #ChaBooCha) in March and NAPIBOWRIWEE ended yesterday (7 picture books in 7 days) I’m not sure I’m up for this. But I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks!
