Look Once, Look Again
Critical Analysis in Children’s Literature
Once thought the stuff of babes, children’s literature now serves as a place to discover the intricacies of our world. Our panel will discuss strategies for uncovering both self and world connections in children’s books. We will explore both classic and contemporary pieces from picture book through young adult novels.
By bringing a critical lens to children’s books participants will understand the visual and cultural dimensions present in each work we cover. Please join us in the Main Banquet Room of Evans Hall at Keystone College.
The panel led by the Kid Lit Ink, an Eastern PA author/illustrator marketing group, includes Clara Gillow Clark, Jan Cheripko, Lindsay Barrett George, and Kim Briggs. The panel is comprised of experienced educators, editors, artists, and writers. For today’s discussion our panel will analyze picture book text, picture book illustration, classic and contemporary middle grade novels, and classic and contemporary young adult novels, as well as nonfiction.
Clara Gillow Clark is a critically acclaimed author of six novels of
historical fiction for middle grade readers.
Lindsay Barrett George is an American award-winning illustrator and author of children’s books.
Kim Briggs is the author of several Young Adult and New Adult Novels.
Jan Cheripko is author of seven books for children and young adults,
including the award-winning YA novel, Imitate the Tiger.
***If SCBWI members only want to attend the Meet & Greet and panel, those sessions can be reserved individually by contacting Kelly Ann Hopkins (email@example.com) or register here. The cost for attending both sessions will be $30 and will include coffee/continental on Friday and brunch/panel on Sunday.
