Here it is, ladies and gentlemen, our brand new Eastern PA SCBWI logo! Big congratulations go to Kate Garchinsky for designing the winning logo. Isn’t it just so cool?
Make sure you say hi to Kate in the comments! You can also follow her on Twitter @katesnowbird, e-mail her at kategarchinsky@gmail.com, and stop by her web site to see more of her fantastic creations at penguinart.com. We’re proud to have you in the EPA SCBWI, Kate!
The new logo unveiling was one of many highlights during our Industry Scoop event on Sunday. Of course I savored two heaping helpings of strawberry ice cream with i-don’t-want-to-know-how-many-calories-worth of fluffy whipped cream. Okay, I also ate a big brownie. And some crumbled Heath Bars. And no, I don’t feel guilty.
But with equal delight I savored the wonderful talk by Stephen Fraser about Picture Book Perfection, the helpful First Pages/First Looks commentary, and Q&A time with Stephen, Joanna Cardenas, and Emily Feinberg. There were prizes, too! Here are some pictures of the day’s fun! Feel free to send me any pictures YOU took, and I’ll add them into this post!
Stephen Fraser of the Jennifer De Chiara Literary Agency discussing Picture Book Perfection! He gave us so many wonderful examples, including the soon-to-be-published manuscript of his client, Jackie Kramer, called The Green Umbrella!
Stephen, Joanna Cardenas of Viking Children’s, and Emily Feinberg of Roaring Brook Press patiently and insightfully answered questions from the crowd. We learned so much!
We spent time with many attendees’ first pages, and our kind and helpful faculty provided insight and advice not only for each individual author, but for all of us to apply to our manuscripts.
Our authors were available to sign copies of their books and generally chat, eat treats, and grace us with their smiling faces. Here are Patricia Thomas, Greg Pizzolli, Jennifer Hansen Rolli, Nancy Viau, and Ponder Goembel.
As a lovely, personal Thank You to outgoing RA Marilyn Hershey, Ponder Goembel provided a perfectly bovine print from Sailor Moo to grace Marilyn’s dairy-farmhouse. Isn’t it fantastic? Here are Donna, Marilyn, Ponder, and Adrienne posing together with it.
And of course, we had lots of fun meeting each other and connecting over our love of words and pictures! Here are a few other random shots of the day. Thanks to Donna for being so crafty and making these snazzy frames!
I had a great time and learned a lot. Thanks for all the efforts by so many to make it a success. I’m so glad to have won the critique with Greg Pizzoli, he had very substantive and insightful comments for me.
This was a fun event. I learned so much from the faculty and it was great speaking with the authors. Lucky — Steve Silbiger!
Thank you so much, Lindsay. It was an honor be chosen, and to attend the ice cream social as my prize. I can’t wait to see it printed on a book bag or shirt!
