A Class with Greg Pizzoli, Member Congrats, and General Announcements

Happy Friday, everyone!  Thanks to all of you who have been contributing your comments and articles to Eastern Penn Points! I’m so happy to see it becoming a place where we can interact, stay informed, and be inspired. Here are some tidbits of news about opportunities, member accomplishments, and reminders….

  • Greg Pizzoli will be teaching a 5-week course focused on developing a solid children’s book portfolio at The University of the Arts. Here’s the link to the registration page: http://cs.uarts.edu/ce/classes/children-s-book-illustration-1
    And the description:
This class is designed for illustrators looking to tailor their portfolio to target children’s book agents and publishers. You will develop new portfolio pieces with a focus on narrative and promotional materials. Examine the works of contemporary illustrators and discuss techniques, materials and style. You should come to the first class session with examples of your work and a sketch.
  • There are still slots available for the #LoveMadeVisible February art and poetry show! Thank you to all who have contributed so far. It’s shaping up to be wonderful and varied, so please add your work if you haven’t already! We have a nice balance of aspiring and published members, so don’t be intimidated 🙂 Send your submissions to Lindsay Bandy at lkbandy84@yahoo.com.
  • Congratulations to EPA SCBWI member Mark Magro for his book deal with Jolly Fish Press! Mark’s YA science fiction novel SURFACING will be out in October, 2015.
  • An invitation from David Harrison and Sandy Asher to all our intrepid author and illustrator friends to tell us about going the extra research distance “In Pursuit of Authenticity.” You know, like climbing the face of El Capitan and stuff like that. Please read this invitation, including the paragraph from Lindsay Bandy’s interview with Debbie Dadey for SCBWI Eastern PA Chapter‘s blog that inspired us to take on this challenge. And then send your stories — by private message, please. Can’t wait to read them!
  • Congratulations to Adrienne Wright, our very own illustrator coordinator, for winning a first-place runner up spot in the Tomie dePaola illustration contest! You can view all of the winners and the contest info here. Adrienne’s is below….isn’t it gorgeous? We’re proud of you, Adrienne!

  • We have not only one, but TWO first-place runners-up in our region! Congratulations to Anni Matsick on her first-place entry (below) in the Tomie dePaola contest! We’re proud of you, Anni!!
